Principle: Our nation’s safety and confidence must be in the Lord and not in our own counsel and military.
It would seem that 911 was a signal that our nation is being warned by God to repent of our national sins. It was a wake up call to seek God as our “shield and defender.”
These are troubling times that challenge our security and peace. Russia is now in Syria and increasing its influence in the Middle East. Isis continues to expand its demonic terror against all that it labels infidels but especially Jews and Christians. Al Qaeda is reemerging as a threat. Iran has vowed to destroy both Israel and America and could soon have nuclear weapons and a delivery system to attack us.
We have gone backwards in Iraq and Afghanistan and all our gains could be lost. North Korea is ruled by a sociopath that now has nuclear missiles that some say can reach parts of the USA.
Some nations have successfully hacked into our military, businesses, and government computers to steal our technology and military secrets.
When I consider how many enemies who would love to see America fall, this passage gives me hope and peace that a faithful remnant of Christians can still pray and intercede for God to protect us.
No matter what plans nations make, God counts them as nothing and God’s plans will stand.
The secret plans of enemy nations who seek to destroy us can be reduced to futility by the prayers of faithful Christians. The plots of terrorists to attack us can be foiled by God as He hears the prayers of His people.
The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.
11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
The plans of His heart to all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.
13 The Lord looks from heaven;
He sees all the sons of men.
14 From the place of His dwelling He looks
On all the inhabitants of the earth;
15 He fashions their hearts individually;
He considers all their works.
16 No king is saved by the multitude of an army;
A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for safety;
Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.
18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope in His mercy,
19 To deliver their soul from death,
And to keep them alive in famine.
20 Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart shall rejoice in Him,
Because we have trusted in His holy name.
22 Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us,
Just as we hope in You (Psalms 33:10-22 emphasis mine).
Consider somewhere in the world national leaders meet secretly to plot against America. Then somewhere in a desert tent or cave, radical Islamic extremists meet privately to plan terrorist attacks against America and her interests.
These powerful enemy leaders have money, weapons, and fanatical followers who would gladly die in order to kill Americans. How do we protect ourselves from covert planning, lone wolves, and secret attacks? We do so by seeking God with all of our hearts.
We need committed Christians all across America in churches and homes to meet together for prayer for God to turn the counsel of the wicked to “nothing and make their plans of no effect.”
Prayer: Lord, you know of the secret plots of the wicked. Dear Lord, be our “help and shield.” We know that, “No king is saved by the multitude of an army;
A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.” You said that, “Your eye is on those that fear you…..those that trust in your Name.” Father turn the heart of your people back to you we pray. In Jesus’ name.
